The JDA Story

You know that restaurant you have to visit while you're on vacation?  Well, in Duck, NC, that restaurant is Duck Deli.  They have really great BBQ and my wife and I can hardly wait to eat there when we get into town.  During a trip to Duck a few years ago, we stopped in for lunch with some friends.  On this particular day, the wait was a little longer than usual.  While we waited, hunger got the best of me and I joked that I couldn't wait any longer for my Duckin' Food.  My company rolled their eyes and groaned, but my corny one liner struck a chord with me.

Throughout the evening, my wheels kept turning.  I knew I had hit on something and was close to coming up with a catchy slogan Duck, NC could call its own.  That night I woke my wife up many times to ask, "Honey, what do you think about this one?"  I don't know if it was out of love or desperation, but she finally sat up, flipped on the light.  "It's 3:00.  Stop forcing it", she said.  "Just think about Duck, what it means to you and why we keep coming back."

And with that, I thought of grilling with friends on a warm summer evening, riding our motorcycle in the ocean breeze, kayaking the marshes of the sound, playing at the beach with our son, walking the shore with our faithful lab, fishing with dad, golfing with my father in law, hitting the tennis ball around with my brother, reading a good book, strolling the shops, eating ice cream... forgetting work... no responsibilities... having fun... Just Duckin' Around.
